Google Loves Me

Posted by DotComMogul in Google

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

The great Google God just bestowed a Pagerank 3 upon my humble blog, from 0 some time tonight.  Guess I’ll have to tone down the derogatory Google remarks I make on occasion (I was just kidding Google ….) Not sure why they have bestowed this honor upon my humble little blog, but what the heh … I’ll take it.

I had really given up on trying to get pagerank and using alternative methods for getting traffic. Hell, I haven’t even Googled myself for quite awhile … kicked the habit some time ago… when all the big blogs dropped rank. It’s no big deal … just a measly 3, but I was so shocked to see it that I tapped the pagerank bar on my computer screen to make sure it wasn’t stuck. lol.

Bend over and take it from Google

Posted by DotComMogul in Google, SERPS

As long as we’re talking about links, this seems like a pretty good opportunity to talk about a simple litmus test for paid links and how to tell if a paid link violates search engines’ quality guidelines. If you want to sell a link, you should at least provide machine-readable disclosure for paid links by making your link in a way that doesn’t affect search engines. There’s a ton of ways to do that. For example, you could make a paid link go through a redirect where the redirect url is robot’ed out using robots.txt. You could also use the rel=nofollow attribute. I’ve said as much many times before, but I wanted to give a heads-up because Google is going to be looking at paid links more closely in the future. Matt Cutts

Relevance is an illusion Google wants to maintain

We are led to believe that Google’s war on paid links is to keep it’s search engine results relevant. We know only too well that those of us who are monetizing their blogs with paid reviews and text links are at risk of losing any page rank they might have achieved and of being buried somewhere deep in the Google black hole of death … all because we dare to make Google more irrelevant than it already is. It’s a cause and effect that enrages webmasters who want to rate well in the world’s dominant search engine. Many feel this is part of a ploy to force them to buy ads on Google to get noticed.

How Relevant is This Google?

Let me show you a very typical example of Google’s relevance that has nothing to do with paid links or reviews. Below is a screenshot of the current Google Hot Trends page.

I clicked on the first Hot Trend, Richard Kuklinski, an infamous Mafia hitman known as the Ice Man. Notice that there are three blogs that Google has chosen to list under Blog Posts for the “Hot Trend” Richard Kuklinski. Notice also that 2 out of the three are nothing more than Splogs. Not only are they splogs, but they are Google splogs … Blogger blogs. The very first splog simply bypasses the splog altogether and redirects to a completely irrelevant page shown in the second screenshot below, “Get a Free Samsumg 42″ HDTV”, “Get a Free Laptop Computer”, “Get a Free Canon EOS Digital Camera” … well, you get the idea. Google Likes Me!!!

I don’t know how long it’s been like this, but I just noticed that I have suddenly gone from pagerank 0 to 3, apparently overnight. Cashing in on Google’s Hot Trends

Posted by DotComMogul in Adsense, Adwords, Google, Most Recent

Today I’m going to talk about using Google’s Hottest Trends to your advantage to make quick money. If you go to Google’s Hot Trends page, you’ll see 100 keywords listed in order of the most popular to least popular. This screen shows you what people are actually searching for and it is updated hourly. This can tell you what people are interested in, particularly now during the Christmas season when people do a lot of online shopping.

To find a list of keywords from the Hot Trends page that you can monetize, you need to look for the products or information that people are searching for. When choosing a product from the list of hot keywords, choose a product that isn’t associated with a particular state or region. Also make sure that the keyword hasn’t soared to the top of the list because of negative press regarding the product, such as deaths or accidents, poisoning, etc. Read the rest of this entry »

How To Make A Killer List Of Keywords for FREE

Latent Semantic Indexing. All of the Search Engines have invested in this technology and if they are not using it now, they will be soon.

The definition for LSI is as follows:

Latent semantic analysis (LSA) is a technique in natural language processing, in particular in vectorial semantics, patented in 1988 [1] by Scott Deerwester, Susan Dumais, George Furnas, Richard Harshman, Thomas Landauer, Karen Lochbaum and Lynn Streeter. In the context of its application to information retrieval, it is sometimes called latent semantic indexing (LSI) - http://www.cs.utk.edu/~lsi/

Google Launches Video Adsense

Posted by DotComMogul in Adsense, Advertising, Google

If you want to use the traditional style Adsense on your blogs, and have more power over ad format, there is an Adsense-Deluxe Wordpress Plugin (updated for Wordpress 2) for use with Adsense or Yahoo ads. It really simplifies adding Adsense to your blog and gives you control over where it’s placed and the size of the ad.Features:

  • Use simple HTML comments for embedding AdSense or Yahoo! Publisher Network ads in a WordPress post
  • Choose from any number of ad styles and format on a post-by-post basis
  • Globally change ad styles
  • Selectively disable display of individual ad styles or all ads
  • Integrated AdSense Preview tool (a sandbox) for seeing what ads will appear on a given page. (Stand-alone AdSense SandBox Tool also available)
  • All settings configured through WordPress Options interface (no knowledge of plugins or PHP required)
  • Easily test different ad formats and color styles across (all, or) a range of blog posts.
  • (Optionally) Apply CSS formatting to the AdSense code.
  • Does not display live ads when editing a page, instead placeholders are shown.
  • Ads are EXCLUDED from RSS feeds — even if you have full-text feeds enabled. (new in v0.3)
  • Preview your ad blocks from the AdSense-Deluxe options page (in case you forget what the ad style looks like), and ads can be clicked without penalty since they use a test account.
  • Support for wp-tiger-admin plugin’s CSS in post/page editor QuickTags

More Search Engine Tips

Posted by DotComMogul in Affiliate Marketing, Blogging, Google, SEO, Social Bookmarking, Uncategorized, blackhat, make money online, marketing, search engines, social networking

Here are some other things that I do to get traffic and search engine links. I’ll start with No. 1

USFreeads.com: buy a premium account with USFreeads and place ads/articles about your products. I can’t tell you how much traffic I get from USFreeAds. It’s a lot. In addition, Google spiders the ads and indexes them.

Squidoo: Some people think Squidoo is not as effective as it once was since it’s crackdown on SPAM lenses. I haven’t found that to be true. The only thing really different is you have to build a better lense. More content, less spammy. I just built a lense on getting paid for social networking at Yuwie and FriendsWin, and it ended up on the first page results of Google.

Blogging: Google seems to love Wordpress blogs. Frequent updates to your Wordpress blogs is a great way to drive traffic to your sites or to market from directly. Again, you need to take the time to make informational posts … posts that people actually want to read rather than just a bunch of affiliate banners. Give your readers a reason to return to your blog over and over again. In addition, I think it’s better to get a domain name for your blog, install it using Fantastico from the control panel of your hosting company rather than having it hosted by Wordpress. I had a blog hosted by Wordpress and they banned it, so all that work down the drain. Host it yourself and that’s not going to happen.

Backlinks: Backlinks are crucial for getting sites indexed and getting good ranking from Google. I’m fortunate enough to have purchased the Trackback Generator, a really handy bit of software that was sold by Ruck (limited quantities sold, no longer available), but you can leave comments on blogs, make posts in forums, etc. to get backlinks to your site.

Yahoo Answers: Another great way to market is Yahoo Answers. Look for unanswered questions in your niche or you can even make two Yahoo accounts … one for questions and one for answers and answer your own questions. Answer as many questions a day as you can. You get backlinks and the opportunity to market a product. You do have to be careful … make it sound like spam and you will be banned in short order. Try to make posts that sound helpful.

Social Bookmarking: This is one I use a lot and it gets excellent results, both in direct traffic from the social networks and in backlinks to your site. Traffic coming from the social bookmarking sites is nothing short of phenomenal. If you’re not using social bookmarks for your sites, you’re missing out on a goldmine. Absolutely one of the most reliable and useful products I’ve bought is Bookmarking Demon. It really rocks. Completely automates the social bookmarking process and you can do a bit of blackhatting and create multiple accounts if you’re so inclined.
