Ok Everybody … Let’s Make Some Damned Money
Posted on July 18th, 2008 by DotComMogul under Affiliate Marketing, make money onlineIf you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Most of my readers know that I give them some tips on monetizing their websites and blogs from time to time, and that one of the ways I try to scare up some cash is to run my Starving Artist Sale to sell my Adsense Backgrounds for Five Lousy Bucks, but I recently ran across yet another innovative way to make money online that you don’t hear discussed very often … Virtual Begging
The first time I heard of this method was when I came across the Save Toby Website, which was a spectacular success, by the way. Then I encountered the Virtual Begging method when I noticed the “Buy Me a Beer” plugin that a lot of people use. I tried it briefly, but no one bought me a beer. ![]()
One of the funniest sites I’ve run across is the Digital Beggar … no other purpose but to beg for money with a script that changes the message every time the page is loaded. I don’t know how successful he is at soliciting donations, but the idea is unique and the implementation humorous.
Here’s some other graphics that gave me a chuckle the other day when I found them here.

So with all the make money online scams out there, perhaps getting rid of the ads and posting one of these in your sidebar is the way to go. What do you think?

“Too Lazy To Be a Wino” BAHAHAHA! That’s me! Running off to get the script. Thanks!

Figured I’d hit you up with an ad purchase instead of just handing you cash. Thanks for the adsense background! I might hit you up for another one soon.

Okay how much do you want. Great post!
July 18th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
Ha thats good.
ums ums for the poor… Give me a dollar!
July 18th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
This is funny stuff. A blog I read regularly has REALLY good info on it and I’ve ended up using his stuff as sort of an encyclopedia at times, as well as referring others to it. He’s got a little “Buy me a cup of tea” button at the bottom, and I did actually click and send him 5 bucks. I figured it was the least I could do since I’ve taken advantage of his resources a lot.
Hmmm, maybe I should try the virtual begging approach on my charity pages. I’ll bet I could get one of my friends to digitally manipulate a pic of a donkey with a gun to his head - donate or the donkey gets it - LOL.
July 18th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
I have never beged for any thing and i am sure not going to beg for this.
Sounds to crazy for me. To each is own i guess.
July 18th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
I don’t think that it will work but it is pretty funny! Wasn’t there a plugin that let you put out a virtual coffee cup to donate to?

I guess we are looking at a 0,01% or 0,001%

Thanks for the mention of Digital Beggar! If you don’t want to donate, I would greatly appreciate stumbles as well. The hardest obstacle so far has been promoting the site
July 18th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
Ha this is brillinat - so many people think of the same old ways to make money - these are quite refreshing and I think deserving of some cash - maybe not mine though lol!

Hilarious! That’s an intriguing option to raise the website revenue. I’d be tempted to pitch in a dollar for a website with a funny sign like these.
The all-time best sign I’ve seen was a guy’s sign that read: “Why lie? I want a BEER.”

I just can’t go for begging.
The cards are funny, but I think most people on the Internet expect to be entertained for free. I seriously doubt that they work for anyone.
Even if they do, I think it demeaning.

Those are some great beggar’s cards. I suck at virtual begging. I tried the Buy me a beer…but alas no one bought me one either, of course I don’t drink beer, so karma probably wouldn’t let anyone buy me one b/c of that fact.

Hmmm, I’m liking the “You’re getting very sleepy” one. I wonder if that would work on my insomnia pages. Better yet, we could develop a subliminal program to get people to click our links! That would be brilliant.
July 29th, 2008 at 9:53 am
I have donated to some websites but mainly due to a plain, non-funny, non-irritating donation button attached to a damn good website.
July 29th, 2008 at 10:02 am
Quite a funny pack you have there. I wonder if people fall for such crap. The one trying hypnotism is the most ridiculous to me. If the viewer is getting sleepy, how will he click “donate button” Nice one.

Those were funny, but not something I’d use myself. I can see donating if it’s a charity, or if someone had given advice/ideas and reading had helped me (like cchiovitti said), but not unless it was a really high quality site.

If anyone is giving away money I could use some — really— Cyberbegging is good reading, but people with money don’t give to individuals nor go to these sites — they give only to “Charities” that don’t give to individuals, because most indiviual’s needs aren’t what they give help with.
